The History of UF Health St. Johns Foundation

Since 1889, when Henry Flagler donated the land to build the original hospital, one of UF Health Flagler Hospital's chief resources continues to be the very people it serves: area residents.

UF Health St. Johns Foundation is a private, not-for-profit corporation and a qualified charitable organization under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, designed for the sole purpose of supporting the hospital through philanthropic funding. It accepts charitable contributions to advance the quality and availability of health care services that UF Health Flagler Hospital provides to residents and visitors of Northeast Florida.

The heart of the Foundation is the more than 100 community leaders and volunteers who comprise its Board of Trustees, serve on its committees and work on a number of special events.

Your Support Plays a Vital Role

While the cost of providing medical services has continued to rise, reimbursement from federal sources, such as Medicare and Medicaid, continue to shrink below the actual cost of care.

Philanthropy plays a major role in our ability to provide truly excellent care. Charitable gifts are essential to establishing critical new programs such as the Heart Center and the Cancer Center. The generosity of our donors helps the hospital purchase the latest, safest and most effective medical technology available. Donations and grants also help provide free benevolent care to our friends and neighbors when they need it.
